Receiving an email from Alistair to let me know that his and Joanna's mum Liz had passed away which filled me with so much sadness. Memories came flooding back from the first time I had the pleasure to meet Liz and I had warmed to her straight away! This was in 1964 when I had met up with Alan Butcher while I spent a year in Kingswood as an Au-Pair girl from the Netherlands to study English for a year. So it was through Alan that I started to get to know his best student friends from Southampton University and hearing all about the trips abroad with Kim & Liz and Alan & Margaret Foster and Peter Ratcliffe to name a few! In 1965 Alan and I got married and we were so delighted that they came over to my home town Sneek to be at our wedding. It did not take long before the others followed suit to get married and we came to their weddings. From then on we tried to meet up with our babies in tow and to watch them growing up. They were such happy times and it is hard to believe that our kids have got married with their own brood and are now taking care of the parents having become 80 + years old. Who are now left with many precious memories of the loyal friends we have had the pleasure to know for that lenght of time. Liz will be very missed and just as much as my dear husband Alan who sadly passed away age 82 during Covid in 2021. RIP Dear Liz

When I went to the NSPCC for help in October 1987, Liz was introduced as my counsellor. I will never forget the gentleness and kindness she showed me. I remember that she was the first person who ever believed what I shared. She validated me. She taught me to realise that I mattered and that that my voice and feelings deserved to be listened to and heard. Over the years she quickly became my trusted friend and confidante. She was someone who never judged me. She listened with an open heart and kindness. She imparted advice and helpful suggestions. She was such an important person in my life. When my daughter was born in 2003 I gave her the middle name of ‘Elizabeth’ as a tribute to her. Liz was someone who I could always rely on; someone who made me confident in my abilities and someone who always made me feel worthy of being loved. She was a huge part of my world and she will always be missed, but never forgotten, by me and everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.

A memory you might like to treasure is that of Liz and I having to sing duets in church and trying (and failing) to harmonise Silent Night whilst my mother played the piano. We must have been about 11/12 years old. I fear it as excruciating for all. Not our finest hour!

Dear Liz We first met through singing and found we both had common interests in birding, singing and especially Port. Special trips were made to Portugal (Port), Venice (singing) and various parts of UK (birding). I am so lucky to have the memories of times spent with you and will never forget you. Ben also has pleasant memories of looking after your dog when we took off. Thank you for being part of my life.

Liz & I spent time together when she lived near Cambridge. She was great fun to be with & I particularly enjoyed our walks around the Botanic Gardens. I shall miss her smile.

Dear Liz- We first met at toddler group and hit it off immediately. We would chat and drink tea while keeping half an eye on Annabel and Lily! Such a kind and generous lady,Liz was very quick to offer her wealth of nutritional knowledge and support when I became ill. I stick to her guidance to this day- such a clever lady, thank you Liz. I remember in the early days of Liz's cruel illness Jo had bought tickets to Annabel's dance show but was unable to get there herself until the interval. I accompanied Liz. The lights dimmed and the show started. Liz started fidgeting and searching in her handbag for something. This went on for some time until eventually she produced a pair of dark glasses and popped them on. She then settled back in her chair. I believe that if she'd had a pair of earplugs she'd have popped them in too ! Her illness didn't stop her being strong, independent an absolutely wonderful person. Rest in peace dear Liz.

We met Liz when we moved to Waterbeach. She was the most welcoming, kind, and thoughtful neighbor. We fast became good friends and would go on dog walks and adventures together exploring the area. Our friendship grew even after we both moved away, and she came and visited us in Lesotho and Ecuador for some amazing adventures. We also met up at Stannary cottage and another time celebrated Thanksgiving with family near her home. She was always ready to go and explore and learn something, she was so loving with our dog and kids, and always had the kindest heart and smile. We came to see Liz in the UK for a brief visit, and as always, enjoyed her warmth and love. She will always hold a special place in our hearts, and I will continue to aspire to live life to the fullest every day like she did. Nana Liz we will forever miss you. xxx

Liz volunteered for a few years with the National Trust at Cotehele. She helped the House Team with the conservation of the mansion and collection. Liz had the sweetest nature and was an absolute pleasure to work with. We had many laughs whilst we were dusting furniture and waxing armour! She was greatly missed when she moved to be near her family, and we are very sad to hear of her passing. A lovely lady who we remember fondly.

Lovely Liz and Family: Forever in my heart. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to meet Liz and for the great times that we had together while I was looking after Liz. The brightest blue eyes, the sweetest smile and all the fun and funny moments that we had together will be forever in my heart. May God bless your beautiful soul, dear Liz. You will be missed so much. I've not enough words to express the joy of being a little part of your life. Lots of love from Mara.

Liz was the kindest and loveliest of people and had the sweetest nature; she was an absolute delight to be with! Fiercely independent and always great fun to be around even when she was beginning to get into a muddle with her words and I was trying to work out what she wanted to say. I feel very privileged to have known her, albeit for only a few years before she moved from her rather special forever cottage home to be nearer to family. She will be very much missed by all those whose hearts she touched.
